What is Japan like?
About Aichi Prefecture
The Location of Aichi Prefecture
Aichi Prefecture is located near the center of Japan. The western half consists of the Nōbi Plain, while the eastern half features the mountainous Mino-Mikawa Plateau. To the south, Ise Bay and Mikawa Bay stretch out, with the Chita and Atsumi Peninsulas jutting into them. This region is characterized by a well-balanced combination of sea, mountains, and urban areas, and is renowned as a "manufacturing kingdom," boasting the highest industrial shipment value in Japan. The climate is mild, influenced by the Kuroshio Current, although the mountainous regions are slightly cooler and experience snowfall in winter. Aichi ranks 8th nationwide in agricultural production, with flowers leading the nation in output. Forestry and fishing are also thriving industries.
Ise Bay and Chubu Centrair International Airport
Like other prefectures, Aichi is experiencing a declining birthrate and an aging population, which are expected to result in labor shortages. The number of foreign workers in the prefecture exceeds 170,000, with the majority coming from Vietnam, Brazil, and China. About 40% of these workers are employed in manufacturing, while others work in service industries, wholesale and retail, as well as accommodation and food services.
In terms of residency status, nearly half hold visas based on personal ties (such as family connections), around 20% are technical interns, slightly under 20% work in specialized or technical fields, and approximately 10% engage in activities outside their designated visa status.
