Chiba Prefecture
The Location of Chiba Prefecture

Chiba Prefecture is located near the center of Japan, on the eastern side of the Greater Tokyo Area, forming a peninsula that extends into the Pacific Ocean. The terrain is mostly flat, except for the Boso Hills, and features a diverse and picturesque 531-kilometer-long coastline.
Surrounded by the sea on three sides, Chiba enjoys a mild maritime climate with warm winters and cool summers. It is also home to Narita International Airport, Japan's gateway to the world, which has fostered the growth of airport-related industries and international logistics. In addition, commerce, industry, and research and development are thriving, contributing to a well-balanced and dynamic economy.
Blessed with a temperate climate, Chiba is one of Japan's leading agricultural prefectures, ranking 4th nationwide in agricultural production value.

Like other prefectures, Chiba is experiencing a declining birthrate and an aging population, leading to labor shortages. Currently, the number of foreign workers in Chiba is slightly under 70,000, with the majority coming from Vietnam, China, and the Philippines. About 20% are employed in manufacturing, while others work in wholesale and retail, service industries, and construction.
In terms of residency status, over 30% hold visas based on familial or personal ties, making it the largest group. This is followed by those engaged in activities outside their designated status, technical interns, and those in specialized or technical fields, each comprising around 20%. These workers play a crucial role in supporting Chiba’s labor market across various industries.
