Curriculum Features
With the goal of training professionals in the field of applied information technology, KCGI incorporates educational methods used in American professional schools. As a general rule, courses are structured around four key components: lectures, case studies, projects (including field research and discussions), and hands-on training. A key feature of our program is the provision of numerous opportunities for students to demonstrate leadership and creativity through presentations, discussions, and projects. For students with no prior IT background, courses for acquiring the necessary foundational knowledge are offered, making admission possible even for those with a liberal arts background. In addition to faculty members with academic expertise, we invite many practitioners from the business world who possess extensive experience at the forefront of their industry.
To promote applied informatics specialists, the program offers a curriculum that combines course models tailored to student-centered projects and activities with specific learning objectives. For International Students
The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics (KCGI) fosters professionals in applied informatics who are equipped with advanced practical skills and the creativity needed to meet societal needs, take on today's challenges, and lead the next generation of professionals. At KCGI, traditions and achievements are carried on from Kyoto Computer Gakuin — Japan's first computer educational institution — from which many IT professionals have trained to meet industry needs. KCGI has also introduced the world's most advanced IT curriculum based on a global educational network with universities overseas, including the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). By incorporating a business and management into the curriculum, highly-specialized IT professionals are born — particularly top leaders in applied IT fields such as Chief Information Officers (CIO) — the kind of professionals that traditional research graduate school have found difficult to train.
KCGI campuses consists of the Kyoto main campuses (Hyakumanben Campus and Kyoto Ekimae Satellite), Sapporo Satellite, and Tokyo Satellite. There are no enrollment restrictions on the undergraduate fields; talented individuals from the humanities and sciences are all welcome.
Many students from various countries come to Kyoto to study at KCGI each year. Numerous courses are available in English as well as several other languages. It is also possible to obtain a degree by only taking taking courses in English.
