Curriculum Features
KCGI, which aims to cultivate specialists in the applied informatics field, incorporates the education method of professional schools in the US. Each course is comprised of four basic elements: lecture format, case study, project (fieldwork and discussion), and practical training. One key feature is that KCGI sets plenty of opportunities to demonstrate leadership and creativity through presentation, discussion, and projects. KCGI recruits a diverse range of entrants from numerous fields in the humanities as well as the sciences, without limiting the departments or major areas of study from which they are expected to have graduated. Non-IT majors are still be equipped with a broad knowledge base, and even humanities graduates with virtually no knowledge of computers can enter KCGI. In order to cultivate professionals, KCGI appoints many practically experienced faculty such as instructors with experience working as CIOs at major companies. In order to cultivate "highly-qualified information technology professionals." Our curriculum is divided into three categories, Concentration Courses that deepen knowledge about a specific field, Industry Courses that focus on practical industry experience and related knowledge, and Supporting Electives that are arranged around the acquisition of human skill, advanced theories, and a tendency of cutting-edge technology. Each course is designed for students to study intensively and efficiently. For International Students
The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics (KCGI) cultivates specialists in applied information technology who possess creativity and high-level practical abilities which will meet the needs of society, support the present age, and lead us into the next generation. KCGI inherits the traditions and achievements of Japan's first computer educational institution, Kyoto Computer Gakuin, which has trained information processing engineers to meet the needs of industry. KCGI also implements an internationally cutting-edge IT curriculum based on a global education network of universities from around the world, including the Rochester Institute of Technology. Furthermore, KCGI's curriculum also takes into consideration management and administration education: KCGI cultivates top leaders in fields of applying IT such as high-level IT professionals and especially CIOs (chief information officers), positions for which it is difficult to receive the proper education at traditional research-oriented graduate schools. Campuses include Kyoto Main School (Hyakumanben Campus and Kyoto Ekimae Satellite), Sapporo Satellite, and Tokyo Satellite.
